Art Spiegelman has almost single-handedly brought comic books out of the toy closet and onto the literature shelves. In 1992, he won the Pulitzer Prize for his masterful Holocaust narrative Maus—which portrayed Jews as mice and Nazis as cats. Maus II continued the remarkable story of his parents’ survival of the Nazi regime and their lives later in America. His comics are best known for their shifting graphic styles, their formal complexity and controversial content. Art Spiegelman will discuss Maus and its place in current global conversations in this culminating program of The Rockwell’s year of Questioning Identity.

Arts and Crafts of Mixed Media

If you’re like me, you hate to see anything tossed in the garbage, so come and be Artsy or Crafty and let’s use things like old barn wood, vintage buttons, beads, metal, paper, fabric, or anything else you find interesting in our personal stash of “ingredients” we find here, there and everywhere. You never know what will come out once you begin your process, but we know you’ll have fun doing it at F.L.A.V.O.R. Studio. Plan on spending about 2 hours and you get to go home with your new Art. If you want to create something that will sit outside, plan on coming back to seal it or we can do it for you and let you know when it’s ready to pick up.
