Hammondsport has the cute boutiques and tasty restaurants, the award-winning wineries and breweries, a uniquely-shaped lake, the cozy accommodation options, and so on. And resting just a few miles south of our village is this little hidden gem called Crooked Line Farm & Orchard. There’s no denying that the Finger Lakes region is one of the most beautiful places to experience the sights and smells of autumn. If you’re like me, you probably have a bucket list of all of the things you want to experience before the comfortable temperatures and fall foliage disappear completely. If Crooked Line Farm & Orchard isn’t on that list, you’re missing out, to put it bluntly. Because what better way to enjoy the golden colors and sweet smells that autumn brings than to stroll through acres and acres of beautiful apple orchards, nestled between the rolling hills of Hammondsport?

Visit Crooked Line Farm & Orchard on Cold Springs Road in Bath!

Crooked Line Farm & Orchard is a family-owned farm located on Cold Springs Road in Bath. After a significant amount of time pursuing a career in the Air-Force, Ray Zaun returned to the Finger Lakes and opened his own U-Pick Farm, one of only a few in Steuben County, in fact. This farm quietly rests on 80+ acres of land. Among some of the barns on their property lives the friendliest little cats & kittens you’ll ever meet who are eager to greet you at the time of your arrival. And don’t let their Highland Cattle intimidate you city folk; these curious guys came to greet me as well as I was taking pictures near their fenced-in field.

After a short walk up a hill (or by a wagon ride), you’ll come upon their apple orchard, containing over 30 varieties of apples. Macintosh (my favorite), Honeycrisp, Black Oxford, Red Hook, Priscilla —you name it, they probably have it. And while they are primarily an apple orchard, they also carry apricot, pears, peaches, and plums! Crooked Line Farm & Orchard can also be found at the Bath, Corning, and Painted Post Farmers Markets during the week. And of course, you gotta make sure you pick up a gallon or two of their fresh apple cider

For me, one of my favorite ways to enjoy the autumnal season is by taking walks through apple orchards with my family and my beloved Australian Shepherd, collecting bushels of apples as we go. There’s something so incredibly peaceful and calming about strolling through a blooming orchard; the smell and sight are so captivating. Whether you’re vacationing in the area or are a resident, I cannot recommend enough that you fit apple picking at Crooked Line Farm & Orchard into your fall bucket list. It’s a perfect activity for families, couples, friends, or even if you need some alone time. And they say, “if your pet is friendly, then we are pet-friendly,” so bring your fur-baby along! Be sure to check Crooked Line Farm & Orchard out this autumn and beyond!
