The Evelyn Peeler Peacock Gallery at The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes will host a demonstration with artist Bridget Bossart van Oterloo at 79 W Market St, Corning, NY on Friday, June 28, 2019 from 5 - 8pm to coincide with a reception for the 2019 Spring Member Show during the Urban Arts Crawl! This is free and open to the public.
About the artist:
Bridget Bossart van Otterloo paints and teaches in Corning, New York. She has a degree in Studio Art from Houghton College. Bridget moved to Corning in 2002 to work as an apprentice and studio assistant for the late Thomas S. Buechner. She currently works from her light-filled home studio, where her subjects include still life, flowers, plants, portraits and landscapes painted in oils and watercolor. Bridget has taught art classes at local youth centers, museums, and schools. She has been on the faculty of 171 Cedar Arts Center in Corning teaching drawing, painting and studio art since 2002.
Bridget's work can be viewed at several venues in the Finger Lakes area including: The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes in Corning, NY; North Star Gallery in Ithaca, NY; Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester, NY; Oxford Gallery in Rochester, NY; Franklin Street Gallery in Watkins Glen, NY; and Gallery 54 in Skaneateles, NY.
Bridget's work is about the beauty in nature. She believes that this beauty enriches our existence, if we can only take a moment to pause our busy lives and take notice. Natural forms, elegant lines, bold colors, and the intrinsic details found in nature are the themes in her work. When painting, she represents nature accurately, but also with her own impression. Bridget uses the paint, oil or watercolor, in thin transparent layers. This layering technique creates a luminous glow throughout the piece, as light passes through and bounces off the different layers. Gold, silver and copper highlight the beauty of her botanical subjects, bringing out their distinct silhouettes and setting them in a unique environment.
With nature as her muse, she has yet to run out of inspiration and she hopes her work serves to reconnect you with nature's beauty.
Bridget will be doing a "Botanical Watercolor Demo". Watch Bridget demonstrate her botanical drawing and watercolor techniques. Additionally, Bridget will have worksheets available to try your hand at sketching from life.
While enjoying Bridget's artist demonstration, take in the amazing artwork by regional artists in the 2019 Spring Member Show.
These events are part of an arts experience occurring at multiple arts organizations throughout Corning on the final Friday of every month from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.
